Information about the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission and how to apply for financial assistance.
Crime Victim Compensation is a viable source of financial assistance to a victim that should not be overlooked for out-of-pocket expenses that might occur as a result of the crime. It is important for victims and claimants to file a compensation application even if the victim has other sources, such as health insurance, that can cover medical expenses.
How Does a Person Qualify?
- — The crime must have occurred in New Mexico.
- — The crime must be reported to a licensed medical provider, licensed mental health provider, tribal health provider or law enforcement agency.
- — A completed application must be filed within two (2) years of the incident. Some exceptions may be allowed for good cause.
- — The victim or claimant must cooperate fully with New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission.

- — Victims
- — Family and dependents of deceased victims
- — Any individual who voluntarily assumes funeral or medical expenses of the victim

No benefits are made for property loss, pain and suffering, or attorney’s fees.
